HTC launching Obsesssion Windows Phone as HTC Diamond3?

htc_logoThe upgraded HTC HD2 Windows Phone will soon launch as the HTC Diamond3, continuing HTC’s tradition of high-powered, high-style Windows Mobile smartphones bearing the “Diamond” brand. According to “reliable sources,” WMPowerUser is reporting that the HTC Obsession will bring its 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 1Ghz processor, 4GB of onboard memory, and HD video-capable 5-megapixel camera to AT&T and T-Mobile as the HTC Diamond3. Word on the street has the Diamond3 possibly dropping in June 2010. Better yet, the Diamond3 is supposed to spearhead the launch of Windows Mobile 7!

But, before you get too excited for a Diamond3 on T-Mobile, take note that the HTC HD2 – quite possibly today’s most compelling smartphone to run the Windows Mobile operating system – has already been confirmed for T-Mobile USA later this year. The HD2 might even be getting an upgrade to Windows Mobile 7 at some point. So, it’s not clear how this Diamond3 rumor will play out on T-Mobile. Will we see T-Mobile offering the HD2 alongside the Diamond3’s slightly uprated feature-set? Time will tell, folks. Time will tell.
