SanDisk introduces 64GB iNAND embedded flash drives

SanDisk introduced the new iNAND Embedded Flash Drives (EFD) based on 32nm 3-bit-per-cell (X3) NAND flash technology and with support for the e.MMC 4.4 specification, offering up to 64 GB of capacity in a single device! You’ve read that correctly, phones with 64GB of built-in storage are coming, like or not (and you like it). 😉

The new 64GB iNAND EFD can be used for boot, system code and mass storage functions, and is offered in a 16x20x1.4 mm form factor with a standard ball grid array (BGA) for quick integration into smartphone designs.

Availability information was not disclosed, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see high-end smartphones released this year come with 64 GB of built-in storage. Now that’s something to look forward to, especially in case that device supports the mass storage mode. That would effectively make portable hard drive obsolete, don’t you think? 😉
