Nokia Research Center videos usually have a bit more technical detail that what you’re about to watch below. In the following demo, a device is placed on a slab of plastic connected to a monitor, then someone selects what sort of content they want to add to their device at the point of sale. The transfer is done, “an album in less than 10 seconds”, and the user is happy.

If I had to take a guess, I’d say this uses NFC for instant pairing, and then uses WiFi for file transfers. There’s no new wireless technology being developed by Nokia, it’s just a technology demo of what’s out there, and what can be done with technology coming soon to a smartphone near you. Why is Nokia dumbing down NRC videos is a bit strange. At least the last video, the demo of radar on your mobile phone, provided some break down of what was happening behind the scenes.
