When it comes down to it, what you really want from a Comcast mobile application is to be able to program your DVR while you’re out and about. Comcast said on its blog today that the 2.0 version of its iPhone app will finally make this happen.

The app itself is useful if you live a Comcastic lifestyle, as you can check your e-mail, sync your phone contacts with online ones, check out On Demand trailers, access your digital voicemails, and look at TV schedules. There’s even push alerts for new e-mails and voicemails. The remote DVR capabilities mean you won’t ever have to miss Lost and it looks fairly easy to use. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to check it out because it is only compatible with the new programming guide, which the company is slowly rolling out. Look for a DVR-capable BlackBerry app next, Comcast said.

“With rDVR, our customers will never miss their favorite show or movie, because they can program their DVR at any time, from anywhere (PC or smartphone),” Comcast said in a blog post. “Granted, it will take us several months to fully roll-out remote DVR programming across the country, but the process is well underway. We’re working as fast as we can to bring these new features to you.”
