It seems like it’s taking forever, but Verizon is readying the Android 2.1 update for the Motorola Droid.
According to information (PDF) from Big Red itself, Droid owners will be getting all the 2.1 goodness that can be found in the Nexus One (Update: looks like it won’t get the 3D app launcher). There will be pinch-to-zoom functionality in the browser, gallery and Google Maps. The voice-to-text feature will be available for any text input box, and you’ll get those fancy 3D effects in the picture gallery. The live wallpapers are coming too and there will be a night mode for Google Maps Navigator that makes it easier to view when the sun is down. Look for improved audio, more Google Maps tweaks and Yahoo Mail support.
Sadly, there’s no official date for this update, but hopefully it shouldn’t take more than a few weeks. This would be a nice thing for Motorola to announce at next week’s CTIA conference.
