If you’re on AT&T and traveling abroad, I’d recommend just popping in a local SIM if possible. But if you can’t do that, the carrier has introduced new international texting plans that could help your budget.

The new package costs $10 a month and it lets you send 50 messages within 90 countries. These messages can be MMS, so feel free to blast out video and pictures. This is significantly cheaper than the 50 cents it costs sending texts while internationally roaming. Once you go over your allotment, each additional message costs 40 cents.

Of course, this package only covers outgoing messages. Yep, go ahead and make fun of us Americans who have to pay for incoming and sent messages. You’ll be able to add this on your plan starting tomorrow and you can check out AT&T’s international roaming site for more tips when traveling abroad.
