Apple has released an updated version of iTunes and the 9.1 version paves the way for the iPad, and it may be taking another swipe at the jailbreaking community.

There’s not much new without an iPad in hand to sync, but the multimedia software will be ready to transfer all types of content once you get your Apple tablet this Saturday. You book readers will be happy to know that the Audiobook category has been renamed “Books,” and it will include the iPad’s iBook content, as well as audiobooks. You’ll also be able to import Google Books or ePub files with the latest iTunes just by dragging and dropping. The iBookstore is not yet available to browse through, but that should change within a few days.

There are a few other tweaks like “Applications” changing to “Apps,” and you now have more control over the Genius mixes. I’ve noticed the program is slightly quicker overall, but that’s not saying much because it’s always been a bloated mess on Windows.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an iTunes update if there wasn’t a jab at jailbroken iPhones and we’re seeing reports of people having trouble syncing their jailbroken devices with the latest version. MobileCrunch is saying, “iPhone hacker ih8snow says the new-found troubles with blackra1n are all Windows-oriented, with the OS X version still working fine. Blackra1n hooks into a Windows .DLL file to find some of the things it need, and said .DLL has changed. OS X users should be fine.”

This cat-and-mouse game seems to happen with every update and the jailbreaking community will surely find a workaround. Let us know if you’re having any issues in the comment section.
