Handmark scored another client for its application development business. It’s Irvine, California-based Freedom Communications, which operates more than 100 publications – including daily newspapers, ancillary magazines and other specialty publications. In addition, its portfolio also consists of TV stations — including five CBS, two ABC network affiliates and one CW affiliate — which combined reach more than 3 million households across the country.
Launched on April 2nd, Freedom’s first mobile application was The Orange County Register. The free app, available for download from ocregister.com/mobile, features top stories, video and photos, while also allowing users to customize what news topics or blogs appear in a “My News” tab. Moreover, there’s the support for offline storage, as well as the ability to share stories with friends via Facebook, Twitter, delicious or e-mail.
The next in line are mobile apps for local CBS affiliate WPEC-TV 12 in West Palm Beach, Florida; The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and The Daily Press in Victorville, California.
These mobile applications will be available across a number of platforms — including the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Mobile and others.
