New Indian carrier, S Tel, announced that it has signed up its one millionth subscriber within 90 days of launch. The GSM-based network is currently available in three circles — including Bihar, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh. In addition, S Tel also has licences in Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and North East with plans to launch services there later in the year.
As part of its strategy, the company plans to have 2,700 base stations installed by the end of this month and then double the number by the end of the year. S Tel’s retail network at the moment counts about 25,000 outlets across the three circles of operations, and that number will most likely follow the growth of the network.
Commenting on the milestone, S Tel’s CEO Mr. Shamik Das said: “We are presently serving about 65% of the urban population and a sizeable rural population in the three circles. We are promoting aggressively the network & service standards and creating new milestones in the telecom landscape.”
