Huawei opens R&D centre in Ottawa, Canada

Huawei has opened its first R&D Centre in Canada – in Ottawa. The Chinese company plans to take advantage of the region, which offers a world-class IT community with access to renowned academic and national research institutions along with a number of highly experienced technology professionals. The new centre employs 70 people who work on multiple, strategic product initiatives in the wireline, wireless, optical and IP networking areas.

Commenting on the news, Huawei Canada’s president Carl Liu said: “Our ability to innovate and develop solutions for customers depends on adding the right people, and Ottawa has long been a nurturing ground for some of the world’s brightest minds in telecommunications. The opening of this facility represents another major step in Huawei’s growth in North America. For the record, the Chinese company provides telecom solutions to Bell Canada, Telus and SaskTel in Canada.
