Despite the fact that quite a chunk of its money comes from iPhone game sales, Gameloft doesn’t want to miss the growing Android tide. That said, the company announced the launch of 10 high-definition 3D games for Android smartphones with WVGA touchscreens such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, HTC Desire, Motorola Droid, Motorola Motoroi and Google Nexus One.

The 10 games announced include: Asphalt 5, Let’s Golf!, Assassin’s Creed, Hero of Sparta, Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, Dungeon Hunter, Real Football 2010, N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, Modern Combat: Sandstorm and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. All of them will apparently be available from Gameloft’s website only (I couldn’t find them at the moment of this writing), as Blake pointed out in the earlier post.

I’ve no doubts other mobile game publishers will follow Gameloft’s example and optimize their titles for the high-end Android smartphones. Users definitely want to play better games these days, and besides – what’s the point of a WVGA display if not that many games take advantage of it.
