A little slip-up by Apple revealed a screen shot showing Keynote on the iPhone’s screen, which was later changed to iBooks, but it could indicate that iWork is headed to iOS 4 for the iPhone. Keynote, along with Pages and Numbers, is only available for the iPad right now, but signs point to availability on other iOS devices soon, like the iPhone and iPod touch.
However, shortly after seeing the mistake, Apple quickly changed the image and it now reads “iBooks,” which is now available for iOS 4. Was it an honest mistake on Apple’s part or a sign of things to come? So far Apple hasn’t hinted at iWork as a package or even the individual apps for the iPhone or iPod touch, and one would imagine that WWDC would have been the perfect time to do it. For now, we’re keeping our reservations until we get something a little more concrete, but we’ll remain wishful!
In other news, Cisco just licensed “iOS” to Apple for its mobile OS name, previously iPhone OS. If you remember when the first iPhone was announced, that name also belonged to Cisco. Apple has been using it with Cisco’s blessing since then (but not after a lawsuit for infringement), so it’s no surprise that the latter was willing to let the Cuptertino company use the new operating system name. “The license is for use of the trademark only and not for any technology,” says Cisco.
