Poynt’s location-based reference app for iPhone now includes weather information and appropriate backgrounds, like its cousin on BlackBerry. Clicking through on the temperature link will show you a five-day forecast, which, though handy, might be a bit redundant if you’re already using the iPhone’s preloaded weather app. The last update made a few UI tweaks, on top of the gesture-based commands and augmented reality features available at launch.
In a nutshell, Poynt uses your GPS/cell tower location to offer pertinent search results for movies, businesses, restaurants, and people, with tight integration with native address book, phone, and mapping applications. Part of me feels like Google Maps for Mobile can generally offer the same thing, but Poynt’s implementation is very stylish and a little more comprehensive. The BlackBerry app has search for gas stations, so it’s clear that there’s a lot of expandability for Poynt’s format – definitely looking forward to new features, and hey, maybe even new platforms. We going to see Poynt on Android any time soon?
Those with an iPhone or BlackBerry can hit up the download links below, or visit Poynt’s site for a closer look. If you do end up getting the iPhone version, the weather might be set to Celsius by default, which can easily be changed to Fahrenheit from the options menu.
