VimpelCom Ltd. is a new business entity recently created as a holding company that controls Russia’s third-largest (VimpelCom) and Ukraine’s largest (Kyivstar) mobile operator. The company announced a series of personnel and organisational changes, as part of the plan to expand the business.
The reporting structure has been divided into four business units – Russia, Ukraine, CIS and International, all of which [business units] will report to the new company’s headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
As for the personnel changes, the “reorg’s prime victims” include Boris Nemsic and Alexander Torbakhov, who had acted as CEO and chairman, respectively. Former CEO Alexander Izosimov is now the group’s CEO; Ukraine division will be led by Igor Lytovchenko, president of Kyivstar; CIS unit by Dmitry Kromsky; and the Russian business by Elena Shmatova, the current CFO.
Since his appointment, Izosimov has been considering a new strategy for VimpelCom Ltd, that would include business expansion either via a full merger with a global peer or at a regional level. He said that such discussions “are in progress” but gave no further details…
