Qualcomm: Majors OEMs will make Gobi-based products!

Qualcomm is all proud to announce that five of the leading OEMs have agreed to make Gobi-based products. As you may know from our earlier post, the Gobi technology will power-up modems to connect on both 3g and 4G (LTE) networks.

The companies that are on “Gobi board” include Huawei, Novatel, Option, Sierra Wireless and ZTE. They will make both embedded modules and USB modems using the latest Gobi MDM chipsets with the new Gobi API.

In addition to securing deals with major OEMs, Qualcomm also got support from leading mobile network operators. Telefonica Spain’s director of devices, Luis Ezcurra, said that Gobi has become the “flagship solution for transparent wireless connectivity, and their new common software interface approach will deliver significant efficiencies to our business and ultimately greater benefits to our subscribers.”

In other words, I would expect to see a range of dual-mode enabled laptops and USB modems being released as soon as LTE networks start rolling out on a wider scale…
