Opera has just launched Opera Mini 5.1, the browser that over 61 million people love when they have to endure a slow EDGE connection or have a low end device. What’s new? Not much … unless you have a clunker of a mobile phone. The new version optimizes memory usage, has a new skin so you can see more web content, and should be snappier.
Users with high end smartphones don’t need to upgrade, but if you want then no one is going to stop you.
Funniest thing about the press release is this choice quote: “This update is highly recommended for users of Nokia S40 feature phones with limited memory, such as the popular Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300 and Nokia 2700 handsets.”
How long have Nokia users been suffering from devices with limited amounts of memory? Hint: Eternity.
