AdFree for Android Blocks All Those Pesky Ads

AdFree for Android is a one-touch ad-blocking application available for your rooted Android handset. That’s right, you have to root your device, but doing so is simple enough and for most, it isn’t a big deal. This is one of the bonuses of rooting one’s Android device–you can live a happy and fulfilling life browsing web pages on your smartphone without those annoying ads for Viagra and diet books.

According to Lifehacker, download and installation is simple enough:

Just download it from the Market, open it up, and hit the “Download & Install Hosts” button at the top of the screen. There are a few options for more advanced tweaking, but most people won’t have to edit any settings to get it working. Note that it actually blocks the ads from downloading; it doesn’t just hide them—so it actually is conserving resources (unlike some ad blockers).

Whether you don’t like seeing the ads, or you’re trying to keep from your system from getting bogged down, it seems like AdFree is heaven-sent. Although we’ll have to try it out ourselves first before we make a final assessment.
