T-Mobile went live with its Motorola DEFY web page and confirmed that the rugged Android handset was coming soon. Originally announced by Motorola in the beginning of September, the DEFY was confirmed for T-Mobile by Oprah and was offered up as a “special surprise” during the talk show host’s final season premiere episode.
Contrary to what you might think, the DEFY is not a chick phone destined for the pocketbooks of Oprah fans. With its dust, shock, and water resistance, this rugged handset appeals to men not afraid to get down in the dirt with their smartphone alongside them. Underneath its hard exterior, the DEFY offers a 3.7-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, DLNA, dual microphones with CrystalTalk noise reduction, and Android 2.1 with MOTOBLUR. When you consider that most rugged handsets skimp on the features to focus on meeting military grade, these specs are not too shabby for a handset that can go from toilet bowl to back pocket without missing a beat.
When the DEFY was first announced early last month, it was slated to debut sometime in the 4th quarter, just in time for the holiday shopping season. With a preview page up and running, its appears as if Motorola and T-Mobile is right on target to meet this launch window. Any T-Mobile customers interested in this extra-hardy handset?
