You read right, EA Mobile is indeed putting together a new SimCity game for iPad, and it’ll be called ‘SimCity Deluxe‘. Of course, the new game will undoubtedly pack all of the features (and maybe more) that are crammed into the iPhone version, but we’ll see.
For my money, the iPad is one of the ultimate devices for playing games like this. I own the original SimCity for iPhone, and while the game is solid… the display is just too darn small. Often times I’d select the wrong thing, or draw a road in the wrong location. Very frustrating. So frustrating in fact, that I can recall only playing the games maybe a handful of times before it found a place on my virtual shelf. Not good.
That said, when SimCity Deluxe does arrive for iPad, I’ll be waiting in line with my wallet ready to go. The large display is ideal for gaming like this. Just think of the space, the room to navigate around and place objects with your fingers… and no squinting or holding the device up-close to your face! Hallelujah!
On the same subject (and as a little bit of an aside) I recently broke down and bought Command & Conquer: Red Alert for the iPad, and let me tell you… it’s a doozy. The game brought back great memories from the original, and while I completely suck at it (I used to be quite the pro), the controls were easy to pick up, the graphics were crisp and vivid… and bottom line is the game is very entertaining. It’s fast becoming one of my favorites whenever I have some free time to sit down for some ‘extended’ game play. Bottom line is it puts the iPhone app to shame.
Pricing on SimCity Deluxe for iPad is still not known, however, we do know it should arrive sometime in November. Until then, you can take a gander at a few more screenshots below. It’s looking good!
