On the heels of its BlackBerry product, BuzzCity launched an SDK for Android, allowing developers to embed advertising within their applications and games. With this move, the company is effectively joining the likes of AdMob and Greystripe, which present a tough competition, to say the least.

BuzzCity’s “trick” is in their existing distribution channel(s) that ensure the apps and games will be available all around the world. At the moment, their global mobile advertising network serves 4.5 billion adverts per month.

The company will be auctioning off mobile inventory to advertisers, while developers will be paid on a per click basis.

BuzzCity’s own data shows that of the top handsets used by consumers — Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson — the latter two manufacturers have at least 11 Android-based handsets.

Commenting on the news, Dr. KF Lai, CEO of BuzzCity said: “Android is well positioned to power a large number and variety of connected devices in the near future. It is the only non-proprietary operating system that allows both developers and handset manufacturers to rapidly develop the user interface for new applications – and we believe that this gives it a greater chance of wider commercial adoption.”
