Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could finally match OPPO’s invisible display crease

Samsung’s next-generation foldable phones might finally solve one of the biggest complaints about folding devices: the visible crease down the middle of the screen. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series could feature crease visibility as minimal as OPPO’s Find N6, which currently sets the standard for nearly invisible fold lines.

This development matters because the display crease has been a major barrier to mainstream foldable phone adoption. While the technology has improved significantly since the first Galaxy Fold launched in 2019, competitors like OPPO have managed to make their creases almost undetectable, putting pressure on Samsung to catch up.

Reliable tipster Ice Universe reported that crease control on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will match the impressive invisibility achieved by OPPO’s Find N6. OPPO made headlines with their “Zero Feel Crease” technology, which uses a high-resolution 3D printing process to fill uneven gaps in the hinge mechanism.

The timing aligns with Samsung Display’s accidental reveal of their crease-less foldable OLED panel at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The technology was showcased again at CES 2026, suggesting Samsung has been working intensively on solving this long-standing issue. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are expected to use this new panel technology.

Samsung’s improvements come as the foldable market heats up significantly. Chinese manufacturers like OPPO, Honor, and Xiaomi have been gaining ground by addressing practical concerns that Samsung’s early foldables struggled with. The crease issue has been particularly important in markets like China, where local brands have emphasized smoother, less visible fold lines as key selling points.

Beyond the crease improvements, Samsung is making other significant changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup:

  • The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a wider screen aspect ratio than previous models
  • It will have just two rear cameras instead of the traditional three-camera setup
  • Battery capacity increases to 4,800mAh for better all-day performance
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra maintains the traditional Galaxy Z Fold aspect ratio
  • The Ultra model gets a larger 5,000mAh battery

However, there are some trade-offs. Recent reports suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series won’t include the Privacy Display technology that debuted with the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. This feature allows users to limit viewing angles for sensitive content, but its absence might help Samsung focus resources on perfecting the crease technology.

The introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra also signals Samsung’s strategy to create more distinct tiers in their foldable lineup. The Ultra model appears positioned as the spiritual successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, maintaining the design language that existing users prefer while the standard model experiments with new form factors.

If Samsung successfully eliminates the visible crease, it could mark a turning point for foldable adoption. The crease has been one of the most common complaints in user reviews and a frequent point of criticism in tech media coverage. Solving this issue while maintaining Samsung’s strengths in software optimization and ecosystem integration could help the company maintain its leading position in the global foldable market.
