Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500) has been launched by Australia’s Telstra and offered for AU$199 on pre-pay. That’s right folks, no contract signing is required if you opt to grab Samsung’s mid-range Android smartphone – simply pay 200 bucks and you’re ready to go.
Of course, we’re talking about a device that is far from the Galaxy S’ feature set, but still delivers quite a bang for the buck. Specs wise, the i5500 comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 3G and WiFi data, A-GPS, 2-megapixel camera, 600MHz CPU, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack and a microSD memory card slot. Sammy’s very own TouchWIZ UI is running on top of the Android core, allowing users to quickly access key apps and services, as well as play with both Samsung’s and Android widgets.
If a) you live or work in Australia, and; b) find this interesting – hop over to this page on Telstra’s website to get more details and possibly even buy the Samsung Galaxy 5 along with the Starter Kit that includes $10 of credit.
