Samsung has been chasing Qualcomm’s tail for years. The Exynos chips have improved, sure, but “improved” has never quite meant “better” — until now, maybe. According to SamMobile, citing a report from Yonhap News Agency, Samsung is highly confident that the Exynos 2700 will beat both upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite chips in speed and power efficiency. That’s a bold claim. But the numbers behind it are hard to ignore.
In Geekbench 6.5 multi-core testing, Samsung reportedly estimates the Exynos 2700 is 19% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and 9.5% faster than the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. On the GPU side, the Xclipse 970 is said to edge out the Extreme Gen 6 by 5% in peak graphics performance. And under a 2.5W power cap, that same GPU is reportedly 24% faster than the standard Elite Gen 6 and 22% faster than the Extreme version. Those efficiency numbers matter a lot, because heat and battery life have been Exynos’s biggest weaknesses for years.
AI performance gets a mention too. In Llama 3.1 8B testing, the Exynos 2700 is reportedly 18% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with AI prompt recognition coming in 5% quicker. So across CPU, GPU, and AI workloads, Samsung is claiming a clean sweep. That’s either genuinely exciting or a very aggressive PR push ahead of a launch. Probably both.
The chip is built on Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2nm process node, known as SF2P. Based on a Geekbench database entry already spotted in the wild, it appears to pack a 10-core CPU, the Xclipse 970 GPU, and at least 12GB of RAM. It’s expected to power the Galaxy S27 and S27+ in most markets. Whether it includes a built-in 5G modem is still unclear, since the Exynos 2600 dropped one to manage heat.
This matters beyond just specs. Samsung’s chip ambitions are tied directly to its foundry business. If the Exynos 2700 performs as claimed, it would signal that Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process is actually competitive, which could attract major clients who currently go to TSMC. So there’s a lot riding on this chip, way more than just whether Galaxy S27 buyers get a smooth experience.
Still, these are internal estimates from Samsung, not independent results. History tells us to wait for real-world testing before getting too excited. But if the Exynos 2700 delivers even close to what’s being claimed, this could be the comeback story Samsung has been building toward for a long time.
