We’ve talked about the SCVNGR check-in service before but it’s only been in the United States so far. Well, now you check-in hungry mobile users around the globe can use the service as it has launched its service worldwide.
On its blog, the company said:
Today we’re excited to announce that SCVNGR is going live around the world, and doing so with the best places database on the planet- the Google Places API (currently in developer preview). Now at millions of locations across the globe, you can check-in, snap picks, do the social check-in, complete and build challenges, unlock badges and rewards, and, most importantly, have fun!
Parlez-vous francais? ¿Habla espanol? Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Eccellente, because content can be added in any language. SCVNGR’s default interface will be in English (something we’re working to change), but everyone can create their own content and build challenges in their native language.
This is an important move for the company, as some of its competitors like Foursquare have branched out beyond the United States. Facebook Places, which may eventually be the largest competitor, is U.S.-only right now.
