Hulu Plus for Android 2.2 Froyo phones on its way in the coming months

Hulu Plus is coming to Android for select phones in the coming months. Finally Hulu Plus users will be able to enjoy their content on the go with their Android 2.2 Froyo-based phones. No specific devices have been given, but a confirmation was certainly nice.

Announced at a Samsung press event here at CES 2011, we pretty much expected that we might see this service get packaged with some Sammy phones in the future. While there are very few details concerning the application’s availability, Hulu recently posted the following on their blog:

Since we launched Hulu Plus, it’s been our goal to continue to add more platforms and devices to the subscription service to offer you as many ways as possible to stream the shows you want, whenever you want. We’re excited to share the following news.

During Samsung’s keynote at CES today, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar announced for the first time that Hulu is working to bring the Hulu Plus subscription service to select Android™ phones (running Android OS 2.2), and gave the audience a sneak peek at the Hulu Plus Android app during the presentation. Hulu Plus will be available on select Android mobile phones in coming months; we’ll announce further details as soon as we have an official launch date and complete list of Hulu Plus-enabled Android phones. We hope you’re as excited as we are!

You bet we’re excited! While I’m not a Hulu Plus user, and don’t think I will become one anytime soon, I’m definitely glad to see that user have this option. And, it’s good to see Android gain yet another major player in the application arena. Who knows, when it becomes available, I may just have to give and sign up for the subscription service. For now, some may be side-loading Flash 10.1 app that enables Hulu through a work around, but nothing can rival the real deal.

Only time will tell when the app will become official, or what devices will get first dibs, but the suspense is killing us.
