If you’re one of those folks who prefer window seats in the sky to watch what’s going on below them, you’ll love WindowSeat. It’s a new iPhone and iPod Touch app made to give U.S. flyers a chance to track their flights as they fly without needing GPS or a persistent network connection.
From what I’ve understood, the application uses constantly updated historical data to determine which route you’re flying. Let’s face it – big changes rarely happen in the air traffic, so they can be pretty sure when they tell you that the plane is flying above, let’s say, the Grand Canyon. Delays do happen, hence there’s an option to change the time of your flight so that WindowSeat can re-calculate the plane’s current position. Likewise, you can do the same with the current position to update flight’s time estimates.
As you fly over cool sites, WindowSeat will show dots on a map, representing various points of interest. Clicking on them will provide you with more information…
All in all, I like how it works. The question is – whether it’s worth 7 bucks ($6.99) in today’s App Economy. You be the judge.
