Apple Stores will take old iPad models and donate them to Teach for America

So the new iPad 2 was launched and you were one of the first in line to grab one. You got home, unboxed that baby and started syncing it with iTunes. As your songs, photos and apps started making their way to your thin, new tablet, however, there was your old one – sitting alone and yearning for attention. You didn’t have the heart to sell it, so what will become of your old iPad?

You can donate it. Apple Stores are taking old iPad donations and will give them to Teach for America:

Teach for America takes well-trained teachers—referred to as “corps members”—and places them in one of 39 urban and rural regions across the country that are identified as low-income. The volunteers agree to teach in those areas for two years with the goal of providing a higher-quality education to low-income students. And, according to Teach for America’s website, recent research shows that its corps members are “more effective than other teachers, including certified and veteran teachers.”

You’d basically be giving up your old iPad for a damn good cause – ’cause it’s for our future and for kids who are in need of a good education.

Just take your first-generation iPad to an Apple Store and an employee will gladly relieve you of it. The iPad will then be donated to the teachers of Teach for America for classroom use. And in case you were wondering, you’ll probably be able to use the donation as a tax deduction, too. See? It’s a win-win if you’re already sporting the newer, slimmer, faster iPad 2.
