Jailbreaking your iOS device just got stupid easy, just point your browser to Jailbreakme.com

Have a piece of Apple hardware that runs iOS and want to make it run software that Apple would never in their right mind approve for the App Store? Jailbreaking is right up your ally. Until now if you wanted to jailbreak your device you had to hook it up to a computer and click a button. Because that’s sometimes too difficult, jailbreakme.com was created. Just take your iPad, iPod touch, or iPhone, swipe to unlock it, open Safari, type in that URL, push a button, and boom, your device is now free from the tyranny imposed by Steve Jobs. What exactly can you do with a jailbroken device? Well, you can enable tethering if your operator removed that feature with the goal of getting you to pay them an extra $20 per month to use it. You can also apply custom themes that go above and beyond what you can do with just another wallpaper. There’s also the piracy angle, so you can grab any paid iOS application for free, but the folks who work hard to jailbreak Apple products don’t actually condone that. Other than that … there’s not much else.

Jailbreaking made sense in the early days of iOS, before the App Store, seeing as how it was the only way to put third party applications on your device. This is obviously no longer the case, with over half a million applications available, from games, reference materials, to fart sounds. Still, if you want to show off to your friends by demoing something they can’t do with their iPhone, then A) You’re sad and B) You can now do it without having to be near your computer.

If you want to get into phone hacking then you’re much better off buying an Android device, rooting it, and throwing on a custom ROM. You can literally spend hours fiddling with settings to your heart’s content, if you’re into that sort of thing.
