We’ve already talked about MobilePayUSA’s non-NFC mobile payment solution in the past, praising it for the security and convenience it promises to deliver. If you recall, it works with pretty much any phone, and it doesn’t require special hardware purchases at the point of sale.
Now the first private beta trial has begun at the Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt in Balboa Island, California; relying on the Virtual Terminal offered by MobilePayUSA for PC-based POS systems. Aside from being cheaper to implement, it’s also more secure since it doesn’t store customers’ credit card information neither on a phone nor at the merchant’s computer. As a result, hackers will have harder time getting your credit card number.
