We’ve already talked about MobilePayUSA’s non-NFC mobile payment solution in the past, praising it for the security and convenience it promises to deliver. If you recall, it works with pretty much any phone, and it doesn’t require special hardware purchases at the point of sale.
Now the first private beta trial has begun at the Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt in Balboa Island, California; relying on the Virtual Terminal offered by MobilePayUSA for PC-based POS systems. You can see how that works from a video below. But before you hit the “Play” button, let me remind you why I think MobilePayUSA may have a chance to fight in the “mobile payments realm.”
Aside from being cheaper to implement, it’s also more secure since it doesn’t store customers’ credit card information neither on a phone nor at the merchant’s computer. As a result, hackers will have harder time getting your credit card number.
