One of the big beefs with Android is that carriers haven’t made a strong effort to keep its devices on the most current version of the software but AT&T just announced that all of its current Android phones will definitely be getting at least Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The carrier said that the Atrix 4G will be getting Gingerbread starting today and the HTC Inspire 4G, LG Phoenix, Samsung Captivate, Pantech Crossover and the Samsung Infuse 4G will be upgraded to Android 2.3. Most of these will be over-the-air updates but it’s not ruling out WiFi-only updates.

The HTC Status already launched with Gingerbread, so you’re dealing with one of the most current builds of the software. Let’s hope the carrier keeps this streak going when Android Ice Cream Sandwich lands later this year.
