New Samsung device rocks Gingerbread and 1280 x 768 res display – phone or Tab?

We’ve been seeing quite a few leaks coming from Samsung lately. First, the Sprint and AT&T Galaxy S 2 and now a leak that shows no physical hardware but is interesting nonetheless. With minimal knowledge of the device described above, we’re still up in the air as to if this is a phone or a tablet.

First off, we’re hearing that the device will ship with a single-core processor with a resolution of 1280 x 768, which seems like a lot of work for a single core CPU these days, but that’s not to say it’s impossible. We have our doubts that this device is the next Nexus phone, as we’d certainly hope it will ship with at very least a dual-core processor if it’s looking to genuinely compete. This could easily be a handset with a high-res display, but it could also possibly be the rumored Galaxy Tab 7 inch refresh we heard about not long ago.

Rumored to land sometime this fall, the 7 inch Galaxy Tab refresh could pack a similar punch to what we’re seeing above. Still, when we did hear the rumor, it was said that the new tab would ship with a 1.2GHz dual-core Exonys processor. If this is indeed a tablet of some sort, could Samsung be making a more affordable option for consumers?

Sometimes when Android devices are in the early production phase, said device is running a lower version of the OS. When the project moves forward, the shipping OS is installed and the testing phase begins. This could be true for this device but some of the specs don’t really seem to add up.

All of this speculation is making us dizzy and hopefully we’ll soon hear more about this device sooner rather than later. For now, we can impatiently await the release of the Galaxy S 2 in the US, which shouldn’t be too far off now.
