Radio Shack ditches T-Mobile for Verizon

Radio Shack is going to be kicking T-Mobile out of its stores in favor of the nation’s largest carrier, Verizon, The Shack said during its earnings report.

Once the go-to place for every assorted little electronic a tinkerer could desire, Radio Shack has been slowly transitioning toward being just another consumer electronics store. That means that the mobile space is going to play an ever-larger role as it tries to compete with the variety of online stores and the giants like Best Buy, Wal-Mart and other stores which have put a larger emphasis on mobile phones and tablets.

Having Verizon in stores should help it attract more customers, as Big Red has nearly triple the user base of T-Mobile and it continues to grow. If The Shack could get some iPhone 4 and iPhone 5s in the store for Verizon, that would likely provide a much-needed jolt.
