GetJar proudly announced that it has surpassed 2 billion downloads, adding it is more than any other cross-platform app store. The company said this is due its vast catalog that counts more than 150,000 applications for over 2,500 mobile devices, including major smartphone platforms like Android, Blackberry, Java, Symbian and Mobile Web (guess this means HTML5-based apps). Moreover, Android exclusives such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope also helped GetJar reach this milestone.

Among the 2 billion downloads on GetJar, Facebook is the top most downloaded app with over 100 million downloads. On the other side, GetJar has more than 1 million Facebook Connect users…

Commenting on the news, GetJar Founder & CEO, Ilja Laurs said: “We credit our growth in downloads to our open approach to the app marketplace. Giving developers for all platforms a free space to distribute their applications has proven popular to both developers and consumers.”
