By now, you know that the Department of Justice is suing to block the AT&T, T-Mobile $39 billion dollar merger on antitrust grounds and we really want to hear what you have to say. Should AT&T be allowed to buy T-Mobile? Let us know in the comments.
The argument that AT&T is trying to make for this is that it will improve service and speeds for a large number of Americans, could bring mobile broadband to rural parts of the country and buying T-Mobile will give it much-needed spectrum as it rolls out 4G LTE. The government is opening up more access to spectrum but not nearly the same amount that AT&T could get by purchasing T-Mobile.
The government is saying the case against the deal is that it will damage competition in the mobile space, which is something Sprint has been saying since the deal was first announced. In a prepared statement, Sprint’s Vonya B. McCann, senior vice president of Government Affairs for Sprint said:
“The DOJ today delivered a decisive victory for consumers, competition and our country. By filing suit to block AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile, the DOJ has put consumers’ interests first. Sprint applauds the DOJ for conducting a careful and thorough review and for reaching a just decision – one which will ensure that consumers continue to reap the benefits of a competitive U.S. wireless industry. Contrary to AT&T’s assertions, today’s action will preserve American jobs, strengthen the American economy, and encourage innovation.”
You’ve heard what they have to say, now let us know what you think.
