Yep we knew the Nokia N9 is heading to Australia where all major carriers and phone retailers should get it. It’s almost there, with one of the companies already accepting pre-orders. Don’t get too excited though, cause you’ll have to pay a small fortune to grab the first MeeGo-powered device. Retailer Harvey Norman asks a whopping AU$829 for the unlocked phone which translates in about $854. That’s way out of line for any phone, no matter how cool it is. We can only hope that once it hits more stores and carriers, the price will go down, eventually hitting the magic price point of “free” (on a two-year contract).
If we look at the N9’s specs sheet, it shouldn’t cost more than $500, considering that some more powerful Android smartphones (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S II or HTC Sensation) could be yours for ~$600. We’ll definitely keep watching where this goes and let you know as soon as we hear something new. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?
