As part of a plan to make its game-centric Xperia Play smartphone more appealing, Sony Ericsson has struck an exclusive launch deal with Tozai Games for their Lode Runner X. The remake of the legendary game will be available “from November 2011” on Xperia PLAY and “other Xperia devices,” while the rest of the Android community will most likely get to download it few weeks later.

Those too young to remember the original Lode Runner should know that it has been originally launched in 1983, the fact that got it a dedicated page on Wikipedia. What’s more, it was one of the first games to include a level editor, though we’re not sure that capability will also be included in the mobile version.

To sum things up, we bring you the words of Tozai Games’s co-founder Scott K. Tsumura – he said: “We’re delighted to be launching Lode Runner X on Xperia PLAY – the smartphone’s performance and physical controls add a great new dimension to our title which until now has only been available on traditional games consoles.”

And in case you wonder, the screenshot above is from the Xbox Live Arcade version of Lode Runner.
