It’s been over a year since Apple announced it would be delivering its own gaming network on iOS called Game Center and today, Apple announced the service has over 67 million users on it. Seeing as how popular the service has been among iOS gamers, Apple will be making some new additions to the service when iOS 5 is released on October 12th.

As of now, Game Center allows its users to add friends via email address or username, but Apple will also make it possible to add friends through friend suggestions. Friend recommendations will be made by Game Center based on your games as well with players you may have played previously. Game Center for iOS 5 will also allow its users to upload profile images as well as adding achievement points.

Game Center has been a solid platform on iOS and these minor tweaks can certainly make the experience better. These aren’t any groundbreaking improvements to the service as profile images, friend recommendations, and achievement points are all items competing gaming networks like OpenFeint, but it certainly is a step in the right direction and shows Apple is still thinking of ways to make the service better for its over 67 million users.
