Rome MVR — where MVR stands for mixed virtual reality — is an awesome looking app that allows iPhone users to explore and learn about few famous buildings in Rome. Available as a free download, it comes with the Roman Coliseum graphics, but there’s also an option to buy the Roman Forum and Imperial Forums via in-app purchases for $1.99.
If you’re actually at the location, you’ll first see the Coliseum in the camera view. Then with a tap of a button, the so called “Time Leap” is enabled, showing you the Coliseum as it was at the peak of the Roman Empire in 3D graphics. What’s more, as you move around the building, so does the 3D rendering of Coliseum on your iPhone, making for an impressive effect. In addition, thanks to the narration about the sites you are looking at, you can also learn a thing or two about them.
In the other case — if you’re not at Rome — you can still rotate buildings and watch the transition between old and new. Super cool!
