Though Cyber Monday is somewhat underwhelming this year, at least in my opinion, eBay had a pretty good run this morning. It slashed $50 off the 16GB WiFi iPad 2 in white, making the price $449. That plus free shipping drove shoppers wild. eBay sold out in just two hours.
During that time period, eBay sold four iPad 2 units per minute. For only the greatest math wizards, that’s roughly 480 total up until eBay ran out. At first, I found this number a bit odd, thinking it was on the small side. Then I took into consideration that this is just one model of the iPad 2 in one color and from just one of many retailers. Realize that and you’ll notice eBay did pretty well.
This news comes shortly after analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray reported that individual stores were selling 14.8 iPads per hour on Black Friday. Apple had a sale of its own for iPads, selling the 16GB iPad 2 for $458, which doesn’t beat eBay’s price today.
Remember all that hubbub recently about comparably poor iPad sales this quarter? Yeah, I wouldn’t feel too sorry for Apple right about now. I think they’re doing just fine.
