Sony Ericsson announced that its Sync service will stop working on December 29th. The Swedish-Japanese handset maker said its service was made for old generation phones and is now pretty obsolete. Instead, they suggest Google Sync to its users or some third-party service like Plaxo or UNYK. Here’s what they said:

We are phasing out Sony Ericsson Sync service since it was meant for old generation phones and our aim is to create a more enhanced and integrated smartphone experience for you. As an alternative to Sony Ericsson Sync service, we recommend you to use the Google Sync service for a more integrated experience in line with the favorite range of Google Mobile Services like Google Voice Search, Google Maps and YouTube. Other alternatives are Plaxo and UNYK. If you’re already using other sync services, you can of course continue to use them instead.

I never used a Sony Ericsson Android smartphone for more than few days so I can’t say I’ll miss their Sync service. Similarly I can’t recall reading rave reviews about it so I guess, it’s better for the company to focus its resources on other things. Are you going to miss Sony Ericsson Sync?
