Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry users want an iPad

Once again the iPad validates itself as the number one desired tablet in a new survey by Maritz Research. In addition to the iPad being the most popular brand among businesses, people that own Android, BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows mobile phones show a preference for iPads over any other tablet else. This is interesting because you would think people who have a particular type of OS would pick the same OS when it comes to purchasing a tablet. Wrong.

This is how the numbers shake out:

  • BlackBerry users - More than half (53%) of survey respondents who identified themselves as BlackBerry users said they would like an iPad if they were to buy a tablet.
  • Android users - Respondents who identified as Android phone users favored the iPad over the Kindle Fire and Galaxy Tab with 41% indicating preference for the iPad.
  • Windows Phone users - Lastly, WP users exhibited comparable characteristics with 40% selecting preference for the iPad.

This doesn’t really surprise me because the survey reflects my feelings on the tablet market as a whole. Personally, I prefer Android as my mobile operating system of choice, but objectively speaking, I’ve yet to see a better tablet experience than the iPad. So, if you were to ask me if I’d take the iPad 2 over what’s available now, I’d say yes. That said, Android tablets are getting much better, and at a fast pace. Case in point – the Asus Eee Transformer Prime is a beastly quad-core slate that is far ahead in specs when compared to the iPad.

more apps is a lame selling point of iDevices, since switching from iOS to Android I have ZERO problems finding apps, weather its games or utilities, for my Tab 10.1 & for my GS II.

also keep in mind, these “polls” only sample .000014470347 % of mobile users.  a few hundred people don’t accurately represent the opinions of a hundred million.

This is a flawed article (and perhaps a flawed poll).  It says that Android users favored the iPad over two specific Android tablet models.  That’s like saying more Windows users people prefer the MacBook Pro over the Dell XPS 15z.  There’s only one iPad and gazillions of Android tablets which happen to be compatible with each other.

The glaring omission is the percentage who prefer *some* Android tablet.  Why was this information not given?  So they could write about this “preference” for the iPad and get people to click on the article.  Well, I guess it worked…
