GameStop’s iOS device trade-in program “exceeds expectations”

GameStop has been making its presence known in the mobile world as they not only announced they will be working on their own Android gaming tablet, but they’ve also lured a number of curious future Android tablet owners by setting up kiosks with an Asus Transformer for kids and kidults to poke at. This past September, they introduced trade-in program that allows iOS device owners to trade in their devices for in-store credit, and according to the company, the program has exceeded expectations.

Joystiq spoke with GameStop president, Tony Bartel, about how the iOS device trade-in program has done. He had this to say:

“The velocity of this trade program has exceeded our expectations.”

Mr. Bartel didn’t disclose any specifics in terms of sales figures, but he says that information will be made available when the company releases its holiday sales figures early next year.

I’ve never been a fan of trading anything in for store credit as I would much rather sell my games or devices on eBay, Gazelle, or Glyde. People can get a fair amount of cash on any of those websites for their products and use that money for other things besides buying more games. Although, with this bit of news, it seems there are a lot of you who would much rather sell your stuff at GameStop for the convenience factor, but you’re probably the same people who complain when they get a $15 trade-in value for a game you spent $60+ a week ago. It just goes to show you if you want things to be convenient, you’re not going to get the best deals.
