Wal-Mart jumped into mobile commerce when it formed WalmartLabs, a division of the company that tests new mobile and social products. This incubator just got bigger thanks to its recent acquisition of Small Society, an iOS app development firm with several recognizable clients like Starbucks, Zipcar and Whole Foods.
Small Society will work with the rest of the Wal-Mart mobile team to improve the company’s mobile products. A post on the WalmartLabs blog gives us some insight into Wal-Mart’s mobile plans,
“Our ambitions aren’t small – we believe that mobile can have an impact on every part of the shopping experience for Walmart customers, whether in-store or online.”
Walmart already has a decent iPad app, an iPhone app and an app for Android handsets. Now with Small Society on board look for both the iOS apps and the Android apps to get some extra attention.
