Google announced today on its blog that it’s letting developers offer subscriptions using Google Play’s in-app billing system. One of the first developers to take advantage of this new payment system is Glu Mobile. Android users who download subscription-enabled apps like Frontline Commando will be able to buy a VIP package from within the app. This subscription-based package will give users an allotment of Glu credits that can be used to buy items within the game.

This new subscription billing will complement Google’s current in-app purchasing system which lets customers buy game upgrades from within the app. Both the in-app purchases and subscriptions are billed through a user’s Google Play account.  You can read more about the in-app subscriptions on Google’s website. Developers can find the tools they need to implement subscriptions on the Android developer website.
