If you’re still somehow searching for the best location-based “check-in” application around for your Android or iOS device, we’re inclined to question if you know what you’re doing at all if you don’t have Foursquare installed. The application just got a sharp update that is very easy on the eyes, all while making it easier to use.

While both Android and iOS have received the same revamped application, it’s optimized in different ways for each operating system, as you might have guessed. The Android version of the new Foursquare has been updated to fall in line with the Ice Cream Sandwich design aesthetics, which makes for a much better experience from end to end. The explore, friends, and me tabs can all be accessed with a simple swipe and no longer requires you to tap on the dedicated tab.

The Explore tab will give you suggestions for places to go given your location, and each location is beautifully laid out in front of you with a nice picture of the venue, along with a popular review. You can also see where your friends are and do a filtered search right from this tab.

Of course, there’s a lot more to the updated app than what we’ve mentioned, so check it out for yourself!

The application is now available for the iPhone and Android devices, with BlackBerry devices expected to get the update in the next few weeks.
