Microsoft job posting suggest Office for iOS is coming

It’s been an interesting last few days for Microsoft, as the company reported its first ever quarterly loss. Now, the software giant is rumored to be working on something special, such as the iOS and Android versions of its Microsoft Office suite of apps.

These rumblings of a future launch of Office came from a recent job posting that says Microsoft is looking to hire a Software Development Engineer to work with the Office for Mac team. This new engineer will help with the “design, implementation, testing of new feature work to be part of Microsoft’s next move on the Mac and on iOS.”

Is the job posting substantial evidence of a iOS or Android launch? No. But, Mr. Softy has been rumored to bring its Office platform to other mobile operating systems for some time now. In fact, it’s been speculated that the company is preparing to release an Office app for both iPad and Android tablets sometime in November.

If this rumor is true, it will be interesting to see how well these suite of apps perform. I have no doubts that an iOS version of Office would do well, but an Android version? Not so sure. Just think, it would have to compete against Google Drive (formerly Google Docs), and with the search giant’s acquisition of QuickOffice, its Drive platform will only get better.

That being said, nothing is official until we hear something more concrete from Microsoft. So until then, stay tuned for all the latest.
