Microsoft hiring ‘Surface Team’ while OEMs continue to piss and moan

Microsoft is on the hunt for talented people to join its ‘Surface Team,’ as a slew of job listings posted on the company’s Careers site. The Surface tablet has not been well received by Microsoft’s manufacturing partners, companies like Acer and Hewlett Packard have expressed its disapproval of the move. Meanwhile, other OEMs are on board, and have embraced the software giant’s ambitious Windows RT tablet push. By posting a job listing with the title “Surface Team,” this suggests that Microsoft intends to be in it for the long haul.

Furthermore, it doesn’t make any sense for the Redmond based company to make such hires to only keep its Surface up to date with future processor improvements. I seriously doubt that. Instead, the company has something more in store, like building up a full product design and development team to keep coming up with fresh products.

In my opinion, this is the right thing for Microsoft to do, especially since its partners have dropped the ball for so many years when it comes to designing a decent tablet. Innovation is greatly lacking with MS OEMs, so it’s time for Mr. Softy to get his hands dirty, by manufacturing its own products.
