Dark Sky for iOS updated, brings push notifications, national radar view, and performance improvements

Well, this didn’t take long. Dark Sky, a uniquely built predictive weather app, just received a pretty significant update. Firstly, if you didn’t read my review on Dark Sky last week, then shame on you. In this upgrade (version 2.0), the developers of this incredible weather application addressed some pressing issues I had in my review. Version 2.0 brings a host of interesting additions, including perhaps the most prominent feature: push notifications. Now users have the option to be notified when rain is coming, which is a missing feature I highlighted as sorely lacking in the previous version of the app.

Other noteworthy features include national radar view, which lets users see all the storms in the country at once, VoiceOver support for improved accessibility, some integration and link sharing with third-party apps, touch-and-hold on the map to change your forecast location, along with the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

This is the first major update since the application was a part of a Kickstarter campaign less than a year ago, so not bad. The only real criticism I have is the update didn’t bring landscape view for the iPhone, as I would love to have gotten a wide shot of the radar feature in that viewing angle. Anyway, if you don’t have the app, make sure you check it out in the source link below. And oh, the application will set you back $3.99. Again, it’s pricey; but worth every penny if you’re a fan of weather apps!
