Google’s Eric Schmidt took to the stage to kick off Motorola’s September press event and confirmed some impressive stats for the Android ecosystem. According to Schmidt, there are 1.3 million Android activations each day, which is up from the 900,000 figure quoted earlier this summer. Schmidt also confirmed that Android has an install base that has climbed to about 500 million total worldwide.

Though Android is doing well in the smartphone market, it’s lagging in the tablet market. Of the 1.2 million activations each day,  only 70,000 of these are tablets. Schmidt admits this number is low because Google was late to the game when compared to its competitors.
